On that occasion, my friend and I were attending a business-networking event at the Movenpick Hotel. Paa Kwesi and I were regulars at that event so I knew him well.  On another occasion I went to Luscious Temptations at the A & C mall in Accra with the same friend. A man at the bar kept trying to get her attention. “Tcheww. He’s only trying to get my attention because I’m mixed race and he thinks I’m cheap,” she said.

Around the same time that as this realisation, my [male] flat mate explained his attraction to light-skinned women, “they are bright, you can see them from a distance.” * cue awkward silence*

Even today in my 30s I still remember that question my mum asked me so many years ago. Sometimes I mentally tally up my friends and count how many dark-skinned and light skinned friends I have. I think back to how my friendships with my light skinned friends developed? I ask myself, who initiated the friendship? I’m relieved when I remember that it’s almost always the other party. I want to be sure that I’m not unconsciously the colour struck child I may have been.  Despite this, I never speak about colour. The politics of colourism never comes up even with those sisters with whom I discuss the politics of everything under the sun. For a fleeting moment I wondered if it was an ‘African thing’, perhaps we are more aware and accepting of the diversity of Black skin. But I know that’s just me living in Utopia.

“Kris is the gatekeeper on Kim’s behalf when it comes to appointment times with the baby,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “She’s in charge of who comes and goes.”
Unfortunately, continued the source, “As far as Kris is concerned Caitlyn has no business being at Kim’s bedside.”
Controlling Kris, noted the source, just “wants the entire family to move on and put Caitlyn behind them.”

Kris’s focus on cutting Caitlyn out has put Kardashian, 35, in an uncomfortable postion.

Her approach here probably wasn't the best one though — a closer crop would have done just fine and probably avoided the speculation piling up in the comments section of the post regarding Meek's apparently forbidden footwear.

God bless the gossip rags, for today they bring us even more *alleged* news about Tyga taking yet another L. This time, it would appear that he was caught texting a teenage girl by none other than his teenage girlfried Kylie Jenner. Is anyone surprised?

Kylie Jenner hasn’t posted Tyga on her Snapchat for weeks, and there’s a great reason for it! She is secretly heartbroken after catching him talking to other girls behind her back! Ever since he reportedly texted a nude selfie to a model named Mia Isabella, the 18-year-old has been wary of her boyfriend, but decided to stick with him.
But now, he’s been accused of talking to a 14-year-old, and it is doubtful she will be able to get over this. A source told OK! exclusively, “Tyga only just managed to convince Kylie that there was nothing to worry about with Mia but he’s not going to be able to weasel out of this latest disaster.” And of course Kylie is devastated! “She feels like a fool for having believed him before, and she doesn’t want him anywhere near her right now,” the source told OK!

Who?" was LeBron James' response to a reporter asking him about Under Armour in a post-game interview following last night's Cavs/Celtics game.
James went on to insist that he didn't know who Under Armour was, underlining that he's a Nike lifer.
"I don't know what you're talking about," James claimed. "Who? The other guys? I don't know who Under Armour is, I only know Nike."
The reporter asked about an Under Armour commercial only to be cut off by James, who clearly wasn't interested in talking about any sportswear companies other than the one he just signed a lifetime deal with.
James also spoke on his Nike Flyease sneakers in the interview, touching on his feelings after seeing Special Olympian Aaron Miller wear them last night.

Earlier this year, we “celebrated” the 15th anniversary of the infamous fight that took place between Chris Childs and Kobe Bryant back in April 2000 by putting together a frame-by-frame recap of it. You can check it out here. And now, we have a better understanding of what happened that night during a Lakers/Knicks game thanks to an interview that Childs just did.

Last week, the former Knick sat down with Knicks Blog Radio to discuss, amongst other things, his fight with Kobe. Childs talked about what led to punches being thrown and also discussed how he probably could have injured Kobe if he really wanted to. Here’s a transcript of Childs’ comments, courtesy of the New York Post:

“He was a young player at the time. He had to challenge someone. I happened to be that guy.
“A couple of times going around screens, I played tight defense, it’s physical down there and he hit me with an elbow. I’m fine with that, but don’t do it above the shoulders.’’
Childs said he asked the officials: “Are you going to do anything about this? They put their hands up: ‘What you want me do?’
“‘No problem, I’ll take care of that.’ I said: ‘Young fella, do that again, there’s going to be a problem.’ [Kobe said]: ‘What are you going to do?’
“We go around the pick and he hit me again. By that time, enough is enough. I’m back home. This young guy is trying me. I walk up to him — if you watch it, he hits me with a little shoulder. He’s 6-6. I’m 6-3 at the time. I got to get him off of me. I give him a little head nudge. From that point on, it’s game on. I took a few boxing lessons. I know how to defend myself.
“When I hit him, I didn’t want to hurt him. I knew he was an up-and-coming guy. I remember back in the day watching Kermit Washington hit Rudy T [with an infamous punch during a game in 1977]. I didn’t want to get that label of hurting a guy’s career. So I just happened to tap him and let him know you’re trying the wrong guy.’"

 

Steven "Baby Scumbag" Fernandez was arrested yesterday for allegedly using his celebrity to sexually exploit a 12-year-old girl.

According to TMZ, police say Fernandez, 15, met the girl in Compton, Calif., and promised he would introduce her to celebrities in exchange for sexual acts. TMZ says the girl agreed and an act was committed, after which police were alerted.

The Los Angeles Police Department also arrested Keelan Dadd, 27, and Jose Barajas, Fernandez's manager. All three were booked for sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old.

Fernandez rose to fame through videos showing him picking up girls on the street. Last year, he appeared in Search Party, a feature film directed by Scot Armstrong. Dadd turned pro for DGK in early 2013. He and Fernandez parted ways with the brand last year.
