The U.S. Government Just Announced Unexpected Marijuana News
The
legalization of marijuana has been a hot topic in recent years. At the
end of July, New York State officials gave five organizations licenses
to grow and sell medical marijuana. This new step towards legalization
includes dispensaries in New York City.
Five Organizations Approved
Each of the five organizations that
will be granted licenses by the state of New York, and they will be
required to be registered and in business within six months. Of the five
organizations, each plans to open about four dispensaries.
Compassionate Care Act
These dispensaries will be made
possible by the Compassionate Care Act, which went into effect in July
2014. The Act made it known that legislators in the state of New York
believed the rules surrounding medical marijuana were too restricted.
A Major Milestone
New York State’s health commissioner
Dr. Howard A. Zucker called the program “a major milestone” in the
medical cannabis program. Given the large pool of people, there are
dispensaries planned for the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan.
