VOLKSWAGEN KEPT HUGE KEY SECURITY FLAW SECRET FOR TWO YEARS

Volkswagen kept huge key security flaw secret for two years

A huge security flaw in remote controlled keys used by numerous car firms was kept a secret by Volkswagen for two years.
Documents have only just been made available to the public containing a list of luxury vehicles which could have been targeted – including Porsche, Audi, Bentley, and Lamborghini brands.
Computer scientists uncovered the flaw back in 2012.
It relates to the Megamos Crypto transponder which is responsible for wireless ‘chat’ between the key and the car.
It’s designed to stop an engine from starting if the two aren’t close enough together.
