US Investigating Airstrike That Hit Doctors Without Borders Hospital in Afghanistan

PHOTO: The burnt Doctors Without Borders hospital is seen after an explosion in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, Oct. 3, 2015. The U.S. military is investigating an airstrike in Kunduz, Afghanistan, early Saturday that appears to have struck a hospital run by Doctors Without Borders, killing at least 19 and injuring 37.
The international aid organization has condemned the attack “in the strongest possible terms” and demanded an independent investigation into the circumstances that led to the airstrike.
In a statement, Doctors Without Borders said 19 people were killed at the hospital including 12 staff members and seven patients, three of them children. The 37 wounded included 19 staff members.
In a statement, the coalition in Afghanistan acknowledged that U.S. forces conducted an airstrike in Kunduz early Saturday at 2:15 a.m. local time "against insurgents who were directly firing upon U.S. service members advising and assisting Afghan Security Forces in the city of Kunduz. The strike was conducted in the vicinity of a Doctors Without Borders medical facility."
"This attack is abhorrent and a grave violation of International Humanitarian Law," said Meinie Nicolai, president of Doctors Without Borders. "We demand total transparency from Coalition forces. We cannot accept that this horrific loss of life will simply be dismissed as ‘collateral damage.'"
"All indications currently point to the bombing being carried out by international Coalition forces. MSF demands a full and transparent account from the Coalition regarding its aerial bombing activities over Kunduz on Saturday morning," said a statement from Doctors Without Borders, which is known in French as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
“MSF also calls for an independent investigation of the attack to ensure maximum transparency and accountability," the statement continued.
"A full investigation into the tragic incident is underway in coordination with the Afghan government," U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said in a statement. "While we are still trying to determine exactly what happened, I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected.
"The area has been the scene of intense fighting the last few days," Carter said. "U.S. forces in support of Afghan Security Forces were operating nearby, as were Taliban fighters."
Gen. John Campbell, the top U.S. and coalition commander in Afghanistan, phoned Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani earlier today to express his condolences.
"While we work to thoroughly examine the incident and determine what happened, my thoughts and prayers are with those affected. We continue to advise and assist our Afghan partners as they clear the city of Kunduz and surrounding areas of insurgents. As always, we will take all reasonable steps to protect civilians from harm,” Campbell said.
A one-star general will head the investigation into the airstrike, a U.S. official told ABC News.
On Thursday, the Afghan government claimed it had retaken main parts of Kunduz which had come under Taliban control on Monday, but the city continues to be the scene of intense fighting as Afghan security forces clear out Taliban fighters from pockets of the city.
Sayed Hussaini, a spokesman for the Kunduz police chief, told ABC News that Taliban fighters were firing at Afghan forces from a building adjacent to the hospital.
"As the ground forces were going building to building to clear the area they were engaged with Taliban close to the hospital," Hussaini said.
"The Taliban were firing on them from the wall beside the hospital on them," he added.
A U.S. official told ABC News that an American AC-130 gunship was operating in the area and firing at a position the Taliban was using to fire on U.S. special operations forces serving alongside afghan special operations forces as advisers. U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan serve as advisers but when under fire they are allowed to return fire and call in air support to defend themselves.
The official said the hospital was in an active combat area and that officials are still trying to determine the circumstances of the damage caused to the hospital and whether Taliban were firing from inside the hospital or whether the hospital was hit inadvertently.
The AC-130 “Spectre” gunship is a fixed wing propeller aircraft that can provide close air support to ground troops. It is equipped with a howitzer that can strike repeatedly at ground targets.
According to a Doctors Without Borders statement, between 2:08 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. local time, its trauma hospital in Kunduz “was hit by a series of aerial bombing raids at approximately 15-minute intervals. The main central hospital building, housing the intensive care unit, emergency rooms and physiotherapy ward, was repeatedly hit very precisely during each aerial raid, while surrounding buildings were left mostly untouched.“
"The bombs hit and then we heard the plane circle round," said Heman Nagarathnam, MSF Head of Programs in northern Afghanistan. "There was a pause, and then more bombs hit. This happened again and again. When I made it out from the office, the main hospital building was engulfed in flames. Those people that could had moved quickly to the building's two bunkers to seek safety. But patients who were unable to escape burned to death as they lay in their beds."
Doctors Without Borders said the aerial attack took place despite the fact that it had recently provided the hospital’s GPS coordinates to the coalition and Afghan government on Tuesday. At the time of the attack, the hospital was treating 105 patients and more than 80 medical staffers were present.
In a statement of condolences, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, "Doctors Without Borders perform extraordinary humanitarian work across the world, including in Afghanistan. They play an important role in helping create the conditions for a better future for the Afghan people."

See Demi Lovato’s Gorgeous (And Totally Unretouched!) Nude Photo Shoot

Earlier this week, Demi Lovato’s Complex spread dropped in all of its topless, knife-wielding glory. On Friday (Oct. 2), Vanity Fair released another type of shoot—makeup-free, nude, and totally unretouched.
Vanity Fair photographer Patrick Ecclesine writes how the spontaneous shoot came about and the rules Demi set forward for it: super-sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing.

In a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot, Demi explains, in her own words, why she decided to do it, saying, “When I think of confident, I think of many things, but one feeling in particular is feeling comfortable in your own skin. There was something incredible about the idea of no makeup whatsoever, no clothes, and no retouching. You know, that says—I never would’ve thought I’d get to a point in my life where I’d feel comfortable doing that.”

5 people hurt in livery cab crash in the Bronx

FORDHAM (WABC)  The Taxi and Limousine Commission has suspended the livery cab driver who lost control, hopped a curb in the Bronx, and hit four small children and a mother Wednesday. The accident happened on East Kingsbridge Road in the Fordham section just before 8 a.m. The most seriously injured is an 8-year-old girl, with injuries to both legs and internal bleeding, who is in critical but stable condition. Her younger brother, a 5-year-old, has injuries to his leg, chest trauma, cuts and bruises. Both have been stabilized at Jacobi Medical Center. Two other boys, ages 10 and 7, suffered minor injuries. The 33-year-old mother is in stable condition at the same hospital. One of the injured children is home from the hospital and talking to Eyewitness News. 10-year old Yohelfry Germosen is cut, bruised, limping and very sore, but knows he's very lucky to be alive. He said he doesn't remember much about the accident. The front bumper of the livery car hit him and pushed him forward. "I remember when a car was over me, when he came and throw me under, I don't remember anything more," he said. ("Did you black out, go unconscious?", we asked.) "I was like asleep," he said. ("When you woke up, what did you see?") "I was with my grandmother who woke me up and helped me get up and then the ambulance came," he said. He was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon. "To witness something like that, it's bad, it's something I don't want to see again," said eyewitness George Perez. Surveillance cameras captured kids heading to school, their parents by their sides, but in a split second it was evident from the look on their faces and body language that something was very wrong. "That's when I saw people flying in the air and so I ran," said Perez. The impact is too graphic to show, as the black car plowed into the five people. Nearby surveillance camera captured the taxi noticeably speeding just moments before it lost control. "He was waiting for his wife to come out of the store and the car just came so fast he didn't have a chance to get out of the way," said a translator for Antonio Acosta, the uncle of one of the victims. His nephew was among those hit. Antonio picked up the child who was bloody, but not seriously hurt. But another child was, a little girl who was pinned under the car. "She wanted her dad so this lady gave her a cell to call her dad and she tried and she looked at everyone and said, I forgot his number and that's when everyone broke down," said Perez. A woman was also hit, and two more boys. Nilda Guerrero held one's hand. "Miguel wake up, don't close your eyes, please tell me if your'e watching me, Miguel your little sister is going to be here soon, you're not alone," she said. The Uber driver, who was not injured, stayed at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time. Several people tried to help lift the vehicle and get it off of those who were trapped. "There were a lot of people trying to help, there was a lot of people really trying to do something, everyone was worried and scared," said eyewitness Victor Morales.

Michelle Obama Just Gave 1,000 Schoolgirls Incredible Life Advice

There are arguably few individuals who can hold the attention of more than 1,000 school-age girls captive for hours. However, if the excitement pulsing through the Apollo Theater in New York City on Tuesday morning was any indication, first lady Michelle Obama is certainly one of them.
Obama has recently promoted at the Global Citizens Festival and on talk shows like Late Show with Stephen Colbert the new girls' education initiative #62MillionGirls, a campaign to educate the 62 million girls around the world who are not in schoolOn Tuesday, though, she turned her attention to the young women in the midst of this experience. Along with moderator Cindi Leive, Glamour's editor-in-chief, and her co-panelists, former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Plan International student activist Nurfahada, and actress/U.N. Messenger of Peace Charlize Theron, Obama directly addressed at least 1,000 school-age girls from local schools as well as organizations like the Girl Scouts and Girl Up.

Michelle Obama Just Gave 1,000 Schoolgirls Incredible Life Advice
Why the focus on girls? The panelists discussed the greater value of educating young women, both for the girls and society at large. Theron said education has been called a "social vaccination against HIV," adding that studies show when girls stay in school, they're much less likely to become infected. Gillard cited research suggesting education correlates with girls marrying later and having fewer children, who are then healthier and more likely to be educated. According to #62MillionGirls partner organization Girl Rising, girls with eight years of education are four times less likely to be married as children; children born to literate mothers are 50% more likely to survive past the age of 5.
But while these points are crucial, perhaps the most valuable information for those in the room came from Obama, who sprinkled the event with invaluable advice attendees could use immediately in their own education.Michelle Obama Just Gave 1,000 Schoolgirls Incredible Life Advice

Value your education. As the name of the campaign points out, 62 million girls around the world are not in school. The opportunity to be in school, Obama told the audience, can't be taken for granted.
"When I think about those 62 million girls not in school, I think about myself and about my daughters," Obama told the audience. Obama said she would commute three hours everyday to attend a magnet high school "where every student valued education" because she believed it would serve as a necessary stepping stone to college and the future she wanted.
"I want you to be that hungry to get your education," she told the audience. "It is going to be the key to your future."Michelle Obama Just Gave 1,000 Schoolgirls Incredible Life Advice
Invest in yourself. Obama urged young women not to underestimate the power they already have.
"You are already mentors because there are girls in your community looking up to you," Obama assured the students. "Compete with the boys, beat the boys, because you all are capable."
This leadership, she noted, stems from a sense of self-worth and investing in oneself. Obama said learning that she was worthy at a young age made all the difference in her ability to pursue her dreams.
Young women must teach other that they're worthy, but "first and foremost we have to believe it to be true for ourselves," she said. "I learned that when I was young. I'm worthy. And if I'm worthy, so are you."

Michelle Obama Just Gave 1,000 Schoolgirls Incredible Life Advice Failing is good. Self-worth, however, does not equal perfection. In fact, Obama said, failing is not only inevitable but necessary.
"Failure is an important part of your growth and developing resilience," she said. "Don't be afraid to fail."
Haters to the left. There's an age-old stereotype that intelligence is an unattractive quality in women. It's a stereotype that has got to go, Obama said.
"You don't want to be with a boy who is too stupid to appreciate a smart young lady," Obama said. "There is no boy who is cute enough or interesting enough to stop you from getting your education. If I worried about who liked me and who thought I was cute at your age, I wouldn't be married to the President of the United States."
But even beyond romantic interests, she noted, young women would do will to avoid anybody who "drags you down" — including toxic female friends.
Michelle Obama Just Gave 1,000 Schoolgirls Incredible Life Advice

"You have to fill your bucket with positive energy and if people are bringing you down — whether that's your boo or your best friend — you have to learn how to push these people to the side," she advised.
Stick with it. Ultimately, Obama acknowledged, change will not come overnight.
"Change for the positive oftentimes is incremental," Obama said. "It's person by person, it's step by step ... solving this problem will take generations. It will take the work of your children and your grandchildren. But we can never give up. We can't afford to."

Brazilian ref draws pistol instead of card

A Brazilian football referee didn't bother with a red card. He went straight for his pistol.
Things started to go wrong during the weekend amateur league game in southeastern Brazil when the subs and coach of Amantes da Bola poured onto the pitch in response to what they considered a dangerous play by rival Brumahdinho.

The referee, a policeman identified by the Globo news site as Gabriel Murta, was kicked and slapped during the melee. So instead of reaching into his shirt for the card, he went back to the changing room for his firearm.
Video footage emerged on Tuesday of the referee, clad in yellow and black, brandishing a handgun at players before being led away by other match officials.

No arrests were made, but according to Globo the referee will be given a psychological evaluation and could face disciplinary measures.

Finally, the Real Proof That 2Pac Is Alive (Fall 2015 Edition)

Another day, another new revelation about the feigned death of Tupac Shakur, or 2Pac, the West Coast’s more revered legend. Shakur was (allegedly) gunned down in his car in Las Vegas on September 7th, 1996. So-called “rational types” want you to believe it’s all been figured out:
But there’s a lot that’s fishy. Every year, there is a noted spotting or two (he was relaxing at a resort in New Zealand last year, but others caught him on video in Cuba), or evidence of a new, more complex cover-up emerges. The quantity of distinct theories might seem to surpass those of any other public figure’s death — in most cases, people tend to stick to a few favorites. This week, one of the weirdest and most chilling to date materialized: a retired cop on his death bed wants to let the world know that ‘Pac paid him $1.5 million to help the rapper take his own life. ‘Pac also paid an extra $50,000 for a fake body to be transported to the morgue. He claims that Suge Knight and his posse were privy to the plot (of course they were). Because the man’s motivations for claiming such a thing are so obscure, this latest explanation has a “You can’t make this shit up” air that most ‘Pac narratives lack. We’ve heard about the FBI setting him up (there’s a whole book you can read about this stuff), the significance of the number 7 in ‘Pac’s art (oh you haven’t? Please check out this handy Tripod site for reference), the ambiguities surrounding his cremation, the fact that Machiavelli — after whom ‘Pac dubbed himself “Makaveli” — wrote about faking death to fool enemies in battle. But with this latest story, we’ve got sums of money being exchanged, and a living, breathing person taking responsibility for the charade. Could the machinations have been less cosmic than we thought? “I heard rumors that I died, murdered in cold blood/Traumatized pictures of me in my final states...” Some forum users are even more cynical; ‘Pac didn’t just do this to get away from fame. Unexplained Mysteries user “Alien Embryo” may have the key to the reason why we’ve lost so many of the greats: capitalistic greed. Lenin was right. “2pac had been talking about the Don Killumanati, One Nation and The Outlaw Immortalz LPs amd the Gridlockd and Gang Related, (name was changed to Criminal Intent) movies being completed for over a year before he died. Plus, almost every musician who died had unreleased material that would sell more if he/she was dead. Does that mean that Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Eazy E, Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia, Biggie, Jimi Hendrix etc all faked there deaths?” But if you need more evidence that’s a bit more concrete, the proof is in the photos. A dominant and lengthy theory in the forum world concerns the disparity between Pac’s facial hair in the two last photos that were supposedly taken of him on the night he was shot. They are clearly different beards, no question — because of course…his military photo was superimposed on the photo of him in the car! Why would someone fake this? Well, who knows — this is just the tip of the iceberg of weird photo problems relating to the night of the murder. The shots of Pac’s crashed BMW after the shooting don’t match up — the damage appears to be completely different in each of them. Pac’s autopsy photo has his tattoos mixed up, and if you do your research (LIKE A REAL ‘PAC FAN WOULD) you would notice that it simply had to be generated from stills from the “California Love” video, one of the few times ‘Pac was captured on camera sleeping. Look, you can call me crazy, but even ‘Pac’s mom knows he’s still out there: It would be cool if any of the many Christ-related theories were true. They are inspired mostly by allusions in Pac’s lyrics and the cover of Makaveli (the nickname for 1996’s The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory), which features a painting of ‘Pac decked out on a crucifix. This shows that … he was planning this, right? Sacrificing himself (the media was getting to him) and then rising again, in due time, to reclaim the throne. But the proof is really in this pudding: mysteriously, the Makaveli album is credited to “SIMON” — that’s right, that’s the name of one of the apostles who saw Jesus rise again. Is “Simon” Suge, ‘Pac’s normal producer? Will Suge be the first to know when ‘Pac hitches a flight back from his New Zealand grass hut/mansion to claim all that record sales, documentary, and future biopic money? No. Because he’s doing just fine where he is, and will be for the rest of this millennium: the planet Yilamhar. Yeah, you’re damn right this is an anagram of “Hail Mary,” just like the ‘Pac song. Get it now? Reocities.com spits the seedy truth about Yilamhar, whose resident (“Space Heads”) put their favorite Earth rappers in trances (Big’s up there too), put chips in their heads and forced them to “kick out rhymes over wack beats”. It’s cool though, because at least they are paying him well, mostly in the “phattest honeys,” and they are going to give him eternal life when his time is up with them and he comes back down to Earth in 3000. Stop calling Young Thug, Future, and all these other Atlanta rappers “aliens”: When ‘Pac gets back everyone is going to be computers, and his new bangers will just be strings of code programmed into our heads full of characters no one has ever seen before. The most absolutely next-level code will be the sequel to “music,” and let me tell you, it’s going to be way better. Your computer brain won’t miss this “ooh, NPR First Listen Mumford and Sons” bullshit.

Scientists Have Pieced Together The Skeleton Of An Adorable New Dinosaur

Paleontologist Mike Triebold first started digging up the bones of a previously unknown species of dinosaur in 2012, when he and his team started work in the Judith River formation in Montana. At first, they didn’t realize what they had on their hands; they assumed that the skeleton belonged to an avaceratops, so they nicknamed the specimen “Ava.”
Turns out Ava is in a league all her own. After finding an 85 percent-complete skeleton of the dinosaur, Triebold realized that this was no avaceratops. It’s not an example of the better-known triceratops, either — this dino roamed the earth 9 million years before the popular three-horned lizard, though they could be distant relatives.
Four paleontology experts have confirmed that150918191347-02-new-ceratopsian-dinosaur-exlarge-169 Triebold has stumbled upon an entirely new species. So what does Ava look like? “A fat pony with a big head and horns,”
That sounds a lot friendlier than anything Chris Pratt has ever had to wrangle. If we actually end up bringing dinosaurs back from the dead someday, maybe we should start with Ava.

Lil Mama Reveals She Was ‘Near Suicidal’ After Crashing Jay Z’s VMA Performance

Kanye West’s Taylor Swift speech interruption at the 2009 VMAs might be the most famous moment of that night, but it wasn’t the only stage crash. If you recall, Lil Mama had an interesting interruption of her own that evening.
As Jay Z and Alicia Keys finalized their “Empire State of Mind” performance, Lil Mama took the stage uninvited and tried to pose next to Jigga and Alicia. Afterwards, Lil Mama apologized and Hov called the act “outta line.” She was ridiculed by fans.

All of this had a profound impact on Lil Mama. “It hurt,” she told Complex. “It took a lot of mental strength, spiritual strength, and physical strength, not to want to hurt others, not to want to hurt myself. A person could be damn near suicidal.” She explained that she lost a lot of work because of it. “A lot of people felt like they didn’t want to take a chance on me with certain things because it might have made Jay Z or Alicia Keys not want to work with them,” she said.
Lil Mama also apparently tried to involve another star in this: Beyoncé.
“As I’m walking, I stop, and I’m like—‘come on, come on, let’s go,’ to Beyoncé,” Lil Mama said. “And she’s like, ‘What?’ She couldn’t believe it. I was trying to celebrate the city. Now that I’m a woman, how crazy would it have looked if she walked up there? They would have been like, [Beyoncé’s] jealous, she can’t stand to see [Jay Z] with another woman. And here I am, someone who’s not in that state of mind, not thinking that way, just caught up in the moment. I look back and think, damn, she was right. I was tripping.”

Let’s Look At Drake And Serena Williams Stare Passionately Into Each Other’s Eyes In This Video

Whether Drake and Serena Williams are friends, soul mates, dating, or something else, they’ve definitely been hanging out a bunch together these days: They were spotted at dinner not too long ago and Aubrey’s attended some of her tennis matches recently (and was even blamed by the Internet for Serena’s loss).

On Tuesday, he continued his support of her career when he sat front row at her HSN show during New York Fashion Week. Drizzy was sitting next to Anna Wintour, who he called his “bae” on Instagram.
But forget Anna, Serena’s the one who really got some love. After the show, as the two chatted, the tennis star put her hands on his arms, they laughed together, and Drake gracefully kissed her hand before they parted ways.

If There's a Way to Talk About Sexual Abuse on TV, 'The Honorable Woman' Got It Right

"Who do you trust?" asks Baroness Nessa Stein (Maggie Gyllenhaal) at the start of every episode of Hugo Blick's The Honorable Woman, a miniseries set amid the ongoing rift between Israel and Palestine. "We all have secrets. We all tell lies," she continues, finally admitting that, "It's a wonder we trust anyone at all."
She's speaking, of course, about that clichéd spy thriller genre dictum: "Trust no one." Yet given the various instances of sexual violence that mark Nessa's character arc in the series, they speak just as easily to the fascinating discussion of sexual abuse that this Emmy-nominated miniseries brings to the forefront with aplomb and tenacity.
By episode six, this opening voiceover bleeds into blurry images of Nessa at a bar, the camera losing focus as a man addresses her. When we catch up with the couple at a nondescript apartment, she is drunkenly asking whether the man "has a bed, at least."
"Not for you," he replies.

Issues of secrets and trust, central to the show's grammar, here are vividly connected to sexual abuse. Fully aware of who Baroness Stein is, the man takes unexpected glee in humiliating Nessa, showering her with alcohol and teasing her for probably having "gotten away with this before." He means an anonymous sexual dalliance. It's true: Early in the series we see Nessa engage in consensual sex with her main security guy.
No sexual relationship in the show, it turns out, is devoid of the power games and secrets the spy genre requires. When it's clear the man will do as he pleases with her, we see Nessa writhing on the floor, much too confused and drunk to fight him back, merely pleading, "Let me go," less a whimper and more a hollow command. We then see him throw a bottle at her.
The camera follows the bottle as it empties itself out over the carpet. It's a stylized way of representing the sexual violence taking place off-screen; alcohol becoming both reason and weapon, excuse and cover for what befalls Nessa within those walls. It's only later, when we see her groggy and bleeding out on the street, that we see the full extent of the assault.

The shot of the alcohol bottle may seem a cheap way to distance viewers from this horrible episode of Nessa's life, but in denying us access to Nessa's humiliation, it gives weight to her character's integrity, refusing the unnamed, vicious man control of the narrative.
This isn't, of course, the first instance of sexual violence in the show. In episode four, we witness Nessa being raped by her kidnapper eight years prior. The scene was joyless, explicitly framed in terms of the sociopolitical consequences it would, quite literally, engender. Nessa's subsequent pregnancy, it turns out, is yet another calculated chess move on the part of the man who'd despised her father enough to have him killed and her abducted. Abstracted from the actual violence imposed on Nessa's body, we'd be tempted to look at these set of events as examples of the way rape has been co-opted by prestige television to give its female characters a complex backstory.

Rihanna Just Revealed Why She Won’t Go Onstage With Taylor Swift

Rihanna won't be joining Taylor Swift's girl squad anytime soon.
The singer-songwriter says she doesn't think heeding Swift's beck and call would make sense for either artist's brand or audience.
"I don't think I would," Rihanna told NME Magazine, according to Cosmopolitan U.K. "I just don't think it makes sense."
I don't think our brands are the same," she continued. "I don't think they match, I don't think our audiences are the same."
"In my mind she's a role model, I'm not."
For context, during a single week of her ongoing 1989 tour in Los Angeles, Swift brought on Kobe Bryant, Ryan Tedder, Uzo Aduba, Chris Rock, Matt LeBlanc, Sean O'Pry, Mary J. Blige, Natalie Maines, Alanis Morissette, Ellen Degeneres, John Legend, Beck, Annie Clark, Selena Gomez, Lisa Kudrow and Justin Timberlake.
She's invited enough celebrity besties to share the stage with her that comedians have started parodying her, while others wonder whether she's merely bringing other celebrities as window dressing for her musical empire.
While Rihanna's opt-out was extraordinarily polite, it's hard not to reach the conclusion she doesn't really want to play second-place on Swift's stage. She's right — it probably wouldn't make sense.

Trump Didn’t Correct That Guy Who Said Obama Is Muslim — But He Also Did Something WAY Worse

Donald Trump has a bad record when it comes to racism. So it’s not that surprising that today he’s facing widespread criticism for failing to correct a man at a New Hampshire rally who claimed that President Obama was both Muslim and “not even an American” (neither of which are true).
In addition to his false statements about the President, the man at the rally — who was proudly wearing a Trump T-shirt — also said, “We have a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims … we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question: When can we get rid of them?”

Model poses underwater inches from deadly crocodiles!

Dance with death: Daredevil model swims with crocodiles
A fearless Italian model spent 10 hours in June swimming with crocodiles in a lagoon in the Gulf of Mexico - some 30 miles from the coast - which is home to over 700 American crocodiles.
In one extraordinary shoot, Roberta Mancino came face-to-face with a four-meter-long American crocodile.
The photography team captured some enchanting pictures of Mancino inches away from the predators, when the crocodiles become more comfortable in her presence as she tried to be nice.
Mancino said it has been a long-held dream for her to swim with crocodiles, but no one dared to fund her project before “because it is so dangerous.”
The Banco Chinchorro atoll reef is regarded as one of the best places in the world to see American crocodiles, where they can grow to between 2.5 and 4 metres long.
Diving companies provide crocodile-watching trips for people, but most would refrain from coming so close to the enormous reptiles.

Video Shows 9 Police Officers Beating a Teen After Jaywalking

At 6:52 a.m. Tuesday, a 16-year-old in Stockton, California, was told to stop walking in the street by a law enforcement officer, according to the Stockton Police Department. After a verbal altercation between the two, the teenager was beaten, thrown to the ground and arrested by nine officers. The climax of the interaction was caught on camera.
SPD's account of the incident involves the teenager using obscene language toward the officer and refusing to leave the bus lane he was walking in, at which point the officer tried to apprehend the young man.
"He was still in the bus lane, so he was actually trespassing. That's why the officer went over there to legally detain him," SPD information officer Joe Silva told Mic. When the teen resisted, according to Silva, the officer pushed back and the pair struggled over the officer's baton. This part of the incident cannot be seen in the footage available.

As the situation escalates, a passerby can be heard yelling, "It's a fucking kid! Get off him, he's been jaywalking. Leave him alone, he didn't do anything wrong." She then repeatedly yells, "It's a fucking kid!"
The officer calls for backup, and at least seven other officers can be seen arriving in the video to detain the unarmed teenager. They tackle him to the ground, handcuff him and take him away while he cries.

Silva told Mic the teen was "cited to his mother for resisting arrest and for the Stockton municipal code for trespassing." The teen will appear in juvenile court to face the charges. Silva added that if civilians did not resist arrest, officers would not have to use force. However, because the video begins after the officer has already physically engaged with the teen, it's unclear how the interaction actually began. But based on the footage available and the onlookers' response to the incident, it seems possible there were other factors at play. "The kid got stopped for 'jaywalking' when he barely stepped out of the bus he was 2 feet away from the sidewalk when the cop stopped him for 'jaywalking,'" Edgar Avendaño, who witnessed and recorded the incident, wrote in a Facebook post with the video. "The cop was telling him to take a [seat] but the teen kept walking to his bus but the cop kept grabbing his arm & the kid took off the cop's hand off his arm so the cop took out his baton & that's when I started recording." However, Silva suggested, so far, the officers are not internally suspected of wrongdoing. "Everything is under review," he explained. "The preliminary investigation shows they were in the right." Avendaño posted the video to Facebook shortly after the incident. At the time of publication, it had over half a million views.

Brazilian Transgender Woman Attacked by Police in Prison..

A 25-year-old transgender woman who is imprisoned at a Sao Paulo, Brazil, jail was attacked by police, who shaved her head and forced her to strip down before beating her, the Daily Mail reports. Veronica Bolina's face was left swollen and bruised. The woman is currently in jail for attacking a 73-year-old neighbor.
Pictures showing her face disfigured sparked outrage and concern for her safety as this is the third time she's been handled by officers in a violent way while being custody.

The police say other prisoners attacked Bolina when they saw her touching herself in a sexual manner and that officers attempted to stop the scuffle. The police add that she received the injuries while they were intervening.
Bolina has been moved to another facility where she has a cell to her self. The police say they are investigating the incident. In Brazil, police violence is an issue. There have been more than 11,000 people killed by law enforcement officers between 2009 and 2013, according to the Forum on Public Safety.

If these images did not leak online, who knows whether Bolina's story would have been heard and whether the prison would have been held accountable for her treatment.

3 Young Women Jailed in Russia for Twerking Next to Monument

Five women were found guilty of "hooliganism," including a 19-year-old who has been sentenced to 15 days in jail
MOSCOW (AP) — A court in southern Russia has sentenced three young women to brief jail terms for making a video showing them twerking next to a World War II memorial.
Russia celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Allies' victory in the World War II next month, an emotionally charged holiday the Kremlin has been using for propaganda purposes.
The sentencing in the Novorossiysk district court of a 19-year-old woman to 15 days in jail and two women in their 20s to 10 days comes after prosecutors launched a probe into a video showing a group of women twerking next to the memorial on the Black Sea. Twerking is a sexually provocative dance involving thrusting of the hips.
Prosecutors said in a statement Saturday that five women were found guilty of "hooliganism" and two of them were spared jail because of poor health. Hooliganism is the charge that sent two members of punk band Pussy Riot to prison for two years for an impromptu protest at Moscow's main cathedral in 2012.
Prosecutors in Novorossiysk also said they were pressing charges against the parents of one underage girl who was twerking with the others girls for "the failure to encourage the physical, intellectual, physiological, spiritual and moral development of a child."
This is a second twerking scandal in Russia in less than two weeks.
Investigators last week launched a probe into a dance school in the city of Orenburg after a YouTube video of female school girls dressed as bees and twerking in a sexually suggestive Winnie the Pooh routine sparked outrage. The dance school was temporarily shut down while officials in this southern city not far from the Kazakh border ordered an inspection of all dance schools in the region.

Miss Zimbabwe Loses Another Beauty Queen to Nude Photo Scandal

Zimbabwe has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to its beauty queens posing naked. For the second year in a row, the Miss Zimbabwe Trust has stripped the winner of the pageant of her crown over a nude photo scandal.

Emily Kachote, 25, was dethroned for "immoral behavior" after she admitted to posing nude for photos, which were leaked last month by her ex. The organization said in a statement Wednesday that she had violated an agreement in which contestants had to swear they have never posed naked, nor will they ever should they win.

Harare - Unlucky Miss Zimbabwe has been humiliated once again: she's been stripped of her title after nude photos of her were leaked, reported the Zimbabwean Herald newspaper.
Emily Kachote, 25, has shown "immoral behaviour", the Miss Zimbabwe Trust said in a statement.
Some Zimbabweans complained Kachote was "ugly" when she won the Miss World Zimbabwe contest in April.
"The Miss Zimbabwe executive board would like to inform the nation that it has decided to dethrone Miss Emily Kachote as Miss World Zimbabwe 2015," the statement said.
"Being in a relationship, sexual advances to anyone and any behaviour categorised as immoral by the Miss Zimbabwe Trust is grounds for instant disqualification and dethronement," the statement added.
Kachote, a financial advisor, had admitted the pictures, apparently leaked by an ex, were genuine. She said she'd hoped the man had deleted the pictures.
Last year's Miss Zimbabwe Thabiso Phiri was also caught up in a nude photo scandal. The Trust insists she resigned of her own accord.
"I wonder if they will even find a Miss Zimbabwe next year?" a reader of the official Herald online commented.

Drake Crashes Future's Toronto Show He brings Norm Kelly, North America's hippest politician, with him.

Students at Ryerson University were already stoked that Future decided to perform at their freshman orientation, but then Drake dropped by to help his friend and collaborator get the crowd all the way turnt up. What's more, the city's native son brought a very special guest to inspire the Class of 2019: Toronto city councillor Norm Kelly, also known as the most down dude in North American politics.

After the 73-year-old got the crowd hyped, Drake ran through his verse on "Where Ya At,” before getting into his tracks “Energy,” “Back to Back,” and “Know Yourself.” Unfortunately, there was no big announcement from him and Future about those mixtape rumors that have been spreading like wildfire across the internet the past few days.

Still, watching Mr. Kelly adorably telling students, "y'all turn up!" was a gift in itself. See the fun in the clip below.

A Creature Bit A Great White Shark In Half. When I See What Bit It? This Is Terrifying!

Sharks are pretty terrifying creatures if you're a human or fish. Remarkable, yes, fascinating, for sure, but terrifying? Absolutely! Just this weekend I watched a movie called The Beach. The film was from 2000 and starred a young Leonardo Dicaprio. Point of the story is these people live remotely on a paradise beach, until a huge shark comes and eats two of their friends. Like I said, terrifying. Here you will see some of that scary in play because a shark bit another shark IN HALF! I kid you not.

Miss Colorado Talks About Nursing Instead Of Singing For The Crown!!

Last week, Miss America hosted its second night of preliminaries in Atlantic City. For the talent competition, most contestants showcased their singing, dancing, and musical talents while donning their sparkly, glittery costumes — but Kelley Johnson walked out on stage in her nurse’s scrubs. Kelley is Miss Colorado, and she decided to forgo the traditional talent routine. Instead, she delivered a unique monologue about her experience as a nurse, and with an elderly Alzheimer’s patient. The results are unexpected, original, and touching.
“Every nurse has a patient that reminds them of why they became a nurse in the first place. Mine was Joe,” she begins. Kelley is a beauty pageant titleholder from Windsor, CO, who was crowned Miss Colorado 2015. Her platform is “The Health Initiative PLUS: Prevent, Live, Uncover, Study.” She is a 2015 graduate of Grand View University where earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, graduating as valedictorian of her nursing class. Today, Kelley is a registered nurse.
Nurses are the ones who make the most direct contact with the patient. They’re the advocates, the planners, and the glue that holds it all together. Regardless of whether Kelley wins the Miss America crown this year, she’s already made her mark in a wonderful way. Watch her incredible monologue below, and please SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!

Browns forced to use Johnny Manziel and he immediately reminds everybody how exciting he can be

After a tumultuous rookie season and an off-season that included time in a rehab clinic, it looked like the Cleveland Browns were ready to move on from Johnny Manziel and turned to veteran journeyman Josh McCown to be their starting quarterback.
It was unclear when, if ever, Manziel would get another shot with the Browns. That shot came much sooner than anybody expected when McCown left the first half of Game 1 of the 2016 season with a head injury.
In came Manziel and he immediately reminded everybody just how exciting he can be on the football field when he has his head on straight.
On his first drive, Manziel scrambled for a 25-yard run when his pocket collapsed. The play was nullified by a penalty for a chop block, but the run was impressive and something few quarterbacks in the NFL can do.
After the penalty, Manziel then hit Travis Benjamin in stride down the left sideline.
Amazingly, for all Manziel has been through in the NFL, this was his first career touchdown pass and it was a beauty, going for 54 yards.
